How FlipGift escrow works — money held until your item arrives
No black boxes. Here is every step of a deal, where your money sits at each stage, and exactly what protects both sides.
Every stage of a deal
The two sides do different things — pick yours.
- 1
Post what you want
Paste a product link from any online store and set the discount you’re looking for.
- 2
Get matched
We match the request with a seller who holds gift-card capacity for that store at a compatible discount.
- 3
Buyer funds escrow
The buyer tops up their FlipGift wallet in stablecoins — USDT, USDC, DAI or PayPal’s PYUSD — then pays the discounted price into escrow. No wallet yet? Buy the stablecoin in a minute through Cash App, PayPal, Venmo or Robinhood. The money is held by FlipGift, not sent to the seller.
- 4
Seller orders & ships
The seller buys the item with their own gift card and ships it to the buyer’s verified address.
- 5
Confirm delivery
The buyer receives the item, inspects it, and confirms. Anything wrong? They open a dispute instead.
- 6
Funds release
Escrow releases the payment to the seller in full and the deal settles. Nothing is withheld afterwards.
What protects each side
Escrow custody
Buyers never pay the seller directly. Funds are released only on confirmed delivery, so a vanishing seller can’t take your money.
Verified address + tracking
Items ship to a verified address with tracking. An address mismatch blocks the deal before it can go wrong — and protects the seller’s payout.
Evidence-based arbitration
If there’s a dispute, an arbiter weighs tracking, store receipts and the address match, then resolves it straight from escrow — full or partial refund.
Reserve & clawback
A reserve is held even after release, and a graded trust system gates higher limits and crypto withdrawal to keep abuse out.
What it costs
No subscription. No listing fee. Posting a buy request or offering your card is free.
The discount is set between buyer and seller — that’s the buyer’s saving and the seller’s margin.
A small platform fee is charged per completed deal for running escrow, matching and dispute resolution. You see the full breakdown before you fund anything.
What “escrow” actually means here
Neither side has to trust the other; they both trust the process. A buyer using discount shopping can’t lose money to a no-show seller, and a seller cashing out a gift card can’t be chargeback-scammed, because the payment was locked in before either of them lifted a finger.
What happens if something goes wrong
The buyer opens a dispute instead of confirming delivery, so escrow simply never releases. An arbiter reviews the evidence both sides already produced during the normal flow — store order screenshot, carrier tracking, address match — and resolves it straight from escrow with a full or partial refund. Decisions are made on facts, not he-said-she-said.
Questions, answered
Do I have to send anyone my gift card or card number?+
No. Sellers keep their gift card the entire time and only use it to buy the buyer’s item. Card numbers and PINs are never shared, which removes the #1 gift-card scam and chargeback risk.
What happens if my item is never delivered or arrives wrong?+
Your payment stays in escrow until you confirm it arrived as described. If it never ships, arrives damaged, or doesn’t match, you open a dispute within the protection window and FlipGift reviews tracking and evidence to refund you.
When does the seller actually get paid?+
Only after the buyer confirms delivery, or after the protection window closes with no dispute. Until then 100% of the payment sits in escrow, so a seller can’t take the money and fail to ship.
How do I pay — what payment methods do you accept?+
You top up your FlipGift wallet in stablecoins, on the wallet page itself — there is no redirect to an outside checkout. Start by picking where you are paying from: Cash App, PayPal, Venmo, Robinhood or your own crypto wallet, so you do not need to already hold crypto. You get an exact amount and a receiving address, valid for 30 minutes; that exact amount is what identifies your payment, and the balance is credited as soon as the network confirms it — seconds on Solana or BNB Chain, a couple of minutes on Ethereum. Deposits run from $10 to $5,000 and FlipGift charges no fee on them. The discounted price is then paid from your wallet balance into escrow. FlipGift never stores card or bank details.
