How FlipGift Works

FlipGift is a peer-to-peer gift card exchange. No middlemen, no fees, no subscriptions. Cards are matched directly between users at fair rates set by real market supply and demand.

The Core Flow

From listing to cashed-out card in ~5 steps

List your card

Pick the brand, enter face value ($15–$500) and the card number/PIN. Codes are encrypted with AES-256 immediately and never leave our servers unencrypted. Pick which brands you’d accept in exchange — the more targets, the faster you match.

Manual verification

An operator checks the card balance on the brand’s official site (typical wait 1–4 hours). If balance is wrong → rejected, reputation penalty. If ok → your card enters the public pool.

Automatic matching

Every 60 seconds our engine scans the pool for mutual matches — someone who offers what you want AND wants what you offer. Hard match (≤3% value diff) = auto-approved. Soft match (3–15% diff) = both sides review and accept.

Re-check (anti-fraud)

Before finalizing, operator verifies balances again on both sides. If anyone’s card was drained since listing → that side gets rejected and reputation drops, other side goes back to the pool unharmed.

Cards delivered

Both sides receive the matched card’s number and PIN in their dashboard (masked by default, revealable with a click). You copy it, spend it, done. No shipping, no waiting.

Fair Exchange Rates

Dynamic liquidity-based pricing

Not every brand is equal. A $100 Walmart card is universally spendable, while $100 at a niche restaurant is harder to use. Instead of pretending $100 = $100, we use a per-brand value coefficient — the brand’s realistic resale rate.

real_value = face_value × value_coefficient

Example: Walmart at 92% means a $100 card has a real value of $92. A Best Buy $100 card at 87% = $87 real value. The market will match them by real value, not face, so both sides walk away even.

You can see every brand’s current rate right in the brand picker on the home page. Green = high liquidity, yellow = medium, grey = low.

The rates are live, not hardcoded

Every 5 minutes our system recomputes each brand’s coefficient based on what’s actually happening in the pool. Two factors:

Supply — how many cards of this brand are currently waiting for a match
Demand — how many users listed this brand as a wanted target

coefficient = base × (1 + 0.15 × (demand − supply) / (demand + supply + 5))

Popular brand (Amazon)

50 people want it, only 2 in pool → coefficient rises. Sellers get more value. Stimulates listings.

Balanced brand

Demand ≈ supply → coefficient stays at baseline.

Oversupplied brand

30 in pool, 1 wants → coefficient drops. Sellers need to offer more face to match. Self-clears the pool.

The Matching Engine

How we find you a partner

The engine runs every minute looking for mutual matches: user A offers X and wants Y, while user B offers Y and wants X. Both conditions must be true.

Hard match vs soft match

Hard match (≤3% diff)

Auto-approved immediately. No user action needed. Goes straight to the re-check stage.

Soft match (3–15% diff)

Both users see the match proposal in their dashboard. You review the value gap and approve or decline within 24 hours.

Thresholds widen with age

The longer your card waits, the more the matching engine relaxes the allowed value difference:

0–3 days±3% (hard match only)

3–7 days±5%

7–14 days±10%

>14 days±15%

Interchangeable brand groups

Some gift cards work across sibling stores. If you offer Walmart and target Sam’s Club, the engine treats them as interchangeable. Same for:

Waiting Too Long?

Alternative matches after 48 hours

If no match happens in 48 hours, your dashboard shows an “See alternatives” button. We scan the pool for the 5 closest candidates — pool members who mutually want to swap with you, just with a bigger value gap than the standard threshold.

Example: your Home Depot $50 has been sitting 2 days. We show: “Costco $48 — 4% less value, but instant match”. Click Accept to propose. The other side still has to approve — no forced trades.

No cash changes hands on FlipGift — the platform is free and commission-free. If you accept a “worse” deal, it means you’re trading speed for perfect value.

Trust Tiers

Small cap on your very first swap — then full access

To protect honest users from first-time scammers, your very first swapis capped at $200 face value. As soon as you successfully complete it, you’re automatically upgraded to trusted — with the full $500 face-value range and no other restrictions.

New (first swap)

Up to $200 face value. Enough for most cards — Starbucks, Target, Amazon $100, Chipotle, etc.

Trusted (after 1 swap)

Up to $500 — our maximum. Unlocked automatically.

Veteran (10+ swaps)

Full access plus future perks — priority notifications, larger referral rewards.

Got a bigger card to trade? List it as two smaller swaps while you build trust, or do one small swap first to unlock the full range.

Everyone starts at 100%

Start: 100%

New users begin with a clean slate.

−20% on failed verification

Submitted a card with wrong balance.

−20% on failed re-check

Card was drained after listing (fraud signal).

Below 60% → flagged

Flagged for admin review. Risk of suspension.

Reputation is shown on your public profile and leaderboard. Higher reputation = better trust signal to matching partners.

Referrals

Invite friends, earn real gift cards

Every user gets a referral link. When friends sign up via your link and complete their first swap, it counts toward your referral total.

Every 5 completed referrals = 1 free gift card

Rewards come from our dedicated referral prize pool (real cards uploaded by admin). You’ll see the prize card number/PIN in your Referrals page — no cash, no promo codes, real gift cards.

Weekly Giveaway

Every Sunday at 18:00 UTC

Anyone with at least one completed swap is automatically eligible for the weekly random draw. No registration, no entry fee, no separate opt-in.

Random draw

A cryptographically random winner is picked each Sunday at 18:00 UTC.

Real gift cards

The prize is a real gift card from our pool — delivered immediately in the winner’s dashboard.
