Sell your eBay gift card for cash without handing anyone the number or PIN. You use the card to pay for a buyer's eBay order, their money waits in escrow, and it's released to you when the order arrives — typically 72–88% of face value, against the 60–85% buy-back sites pay after taking the code.

Why eBay gift cards go unused

eBay cards pile up from promos and trades, waiting for an auction worth winning.

Spending an eBay balance on a buyer's order

An eBay gift card isn't a store card you hand over. Once you add it to your account, eBay's terms make it non-transferable after the first use — the balance is locked to your eBay account. That's why buy-back sites want untouched codes. Here it doesn't matter: you buy the item on your own account and have it shipped to the buyer.

Before you accept an eBay order:

  • US address only. Items bought with an eBay gift card must ship to a U.S. address, and eBay can block a purchase that tries to get around that through a freight forwarder.
  • Daily and monthly caps. eBay allows no more than $1,000 in gift card redemptions a day and $1,500 a calendar month, across linked accounts — a large balance may take more than one order.
  • You're buying from an eBay seller, not from eBay. The item ships from whoever listed it, so the tracking number is the one that seller adds to your order. An eBay order number (12-34567-89012) goes in the screenshot, not the tracking field.
  • Not for other gift cards, coins, bullion or virtual currency, and not for eBay selling fees.
  • Existing balances stay good. eBay is phasing out new gift cards, but cards you already hold never expire and carry no fees.

How to sell your eBay card the safe way

  1. List your eBay card — brand and balance only, never the code.
  2. A buyer who wants something from eBay — electronics, say — pays for their order into escrow.
  3. You place their order with your card and upload the confirmation and tracking.
  4. When they confirm delivery, escrow pays you.

Before you list: check your eBay balance

eBay lets you check the balance in the store account you signed in with, with the card number alone.

  1. Use the button to open eBay's official gift card balance page.
  2. Enter the redemption code from the card or email.
  3. Submit to see the unredeemed balance.
  4. Already redeemed it? Sign in to eBay and view the amount under your gift card balance in account settings.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to share my eBay card number or PIN to sell it?

No. You keep the card and use it to pay for a buyer's eBay order yourself — the number and PIN are never typed into any site or handed to anyone.

How much will I get for my eBay gift card?

Typically 72–88% of face value: you set the discount, the buyer pays that price into escrow, and you keep it minus a 2.5% seller fee and the 2% withdrawal fee. Buy-back sites usually pay 60–85% and take the code first.

How fast do I get paid for my eBay card?

When the buyer confirms their eBay order arrived — or automatically about 16 days after it ships if they never respond. You can then withdraw as crypto or a digital prepaid Visa card.

Can you sell gift cards on eBay itself?

Only within tight limits: eBay's gift card policy caps the total face value of a seller's gift card listings at $500 at any one time, and bans prepaid Visa, Mastercard, Amex and Discover cards and store credit receipts. And whoever buys the card needs the code. Here you keep the code and spend your balance on a buyer's eBay order instead.

Can I sell an eBay gift card I've already added to my account?

Yes. After its first use an eBay gift card is locked to your account and can't be transferred, so buy-back sites can't take it. You don't need to transfer anything here: you buy the buyer's item on your own eBay account, ship it to their U.S. address, and escrow pays you when they confirm delivery.
