IKEA student discount: 15% once, in summer — and the military and teacher offers
Updated September 30, 2026 · Reviewed by Kirill Novikov, FlipGift founder
IKEA's student discount is seasonal: a one-time 15% coupon for college students who are IKEA Family members, verified through SheerID, and in 2026 it ran from 26 May to 30 September — IKEA says it usually returns at back-to-college time in summer. It covers one purchase, excludes kitchens, delivery and assembly, and cannot be combined with any other IKEA offer. Outside that window, and on the things it excludes, someone holding IKEA credit can place your order and you pay 8–40% less than the checkout total, with your money held in escrow until it arrives. How the IKEA student discount works
- Who: active part-time or full-time college and university students.
- First, IKEA Family: the free loyalty program. You have to be signed in to it to verify.
- Verify with SheerID on IKEA's student page — a college ID, class schedule, tuition receipt or transcript.
- You get one coupon code for 15%, valid 30 days from verification, for a single transaction, online (enter the code) or in store (scan the QR code). One code per verified student.
What the 15% does not cover
IKEA's terms exclude delivery, installation, assembly and tax; kitchens — SEKTION and KNOXHULT cabinets, fronts and components, custom countertops and appliances (the TILLREDA and LAGAN mini fridge are the exceptions); kitchen planning and other services; the As-is section; the restaurant and bistro; gift cards; third-party products; previous purchases; and payment with the IKEA credit card. It cannot be combined with other IKEA offers or coupons.
For a first apartment the delivery exclusion matters: the 15% comes off the furniture, and the truck is paid in full.
Does IKEA have a military discount?
Not all year. In May 2026, Military Appreciation Month, IKEA ran 15% off an entire purchase for active-duty military, spouses and veterans who are IKEA Family members, verified through SheerID — a one-time coupon, for one transaction, with the same exclusions as the student offer. IKEA's national military page now says "check back soon".
Some IKEA stores run their own offers, in store only, with an IKEA Family card and a military ID — IKEA Centennial in Colorado, for one, lists 10% for active military, veterans and their families. They vary by store and change often, so check your store's page on ikea.com.
Teachers, first responders, seniors
IKEA has no national program for any of them. Individual stores have run teacher-appreciation events; none is published nationally.
| Group | Discount | When | Where |
|---|---|---|---|
| College students | 15%, one purchase | Summer (26 May–30 Sep 2026) | Online and in store |
| Military, spouses, veterans | 15%, one purchase | May (Military Appreciation Month) | In store; some stores run local offers |
| Teachers | None nationally | Local store events only | — |
Paying less on an IKEA order the rest of the year
A seller holding IKEA credit they will not use places your order on ikea.com and has it delivered to your US address. You pay 8–40% less than the whole checkout — the furniture, the delivery and the tax — kitchens included, any month, as many times as you like. Say a $400 PAX wardrobe: the student coupon makes it $340 plus full-price delivery, once; a seller at 20% makes the whole checkout 20% cheaper, plus your half of the 5% deal fee. Your money stays in escrow until the boxes arrive. How escrow buying works →
