A Lyft gift card adds credit to the account that redeems it and cannot be moved to another rider. So the seller spends it on your ride: they schedule a ride in the Lyft app with you as the passenger — your name and mobile number, the pickup and drop-off you gave, at your time — and pay with their Lyft credit. Lyft sends the driver's details and a tracking link to your phone.

The account that scheduled a Lyft ride can cancel it, so this wave takes scheduled rides only — 2 hours to 7 days ahead — and the deal completes on the ride itself: your one tap, or three hours after pickup if you say nothing. A completed ride cannot be reversed, so there is no long payout hold.
