Where to look

Journeys keeps buying and checking in one place: the gift cards page (linked above) both sells cards and carries the Check Gift Card Balance tool. Enter the card number — from the back of a physical card, or from the email if it arrived digitally — and the balance comes back.

Phone and register

Call 1-800-824-6600 and follow the prompts for gift card support with the card number and PIN to hand. Or walk into any Journeys store and hand the card to an associate at the register, who scans it and tells you the amount — the fastest route if you are already in a mall.

Journeys, Journeys Kidz and the family question

Journeys is part of Genesco and sits alongside sister banners including Journeys Kidz. Related banners do not automatically mean a shared gift card programme, so if you are holding a card from one and standing in another, ask at the register rather than assuming. It costs one question and saves an argument at the till.

Skate shoes and teenagers

These cards are overwhelmingly gifts to teenagers, which has two practical consequences: the balance is often spent in pieces across visits, and the person holding the card is frequently not the person who bought it. Both are reasons to check the number before a trip rather than during one.

When the tool will not read the card

Read the number from the card in good light — these live in backpacks and the print wears. Confirm you are entering the card number rather than an order reference. Copy digital codes from the email instead of retyping. Give a card bought minutes ago time to activate.

Zero on a card that should have value

Ask whoever else may have used it before assuming an error; shared household cards are the norm in this category. If the card is genuinely untouched, the original receipt is what customer service can trace.

If the styles are not yours

A card for a shop you do not wear is money standing still.
