Lids Gift Card Balance — Check It Online

Lids publishes the single best piece of gift card advice on any retailer's site: if the scratch-off panel is already exposed on a rack card, put it back and take another. That panel is the whole security model.

Why an exposed scratch panel matters

A gift card on a display rack is worthless until it is activated at the till — which is why nobody steals the cards. What they do instead is photograph the number and PIN of cards still on the rack, put them back, and wait for someone to buy and load one. A scratch-off that has already been rubbed away is the tell, and Lids says so on its own gift card pages. Take a different card.

Checking your balance

Lids' balance form (linked above) needs two things:

  • the 16-digit card number from the back of the card;
  • the 4-digit PIN from under the scratch-off coating.

Enter both, submit, and the balance appears. There is no fee and no sign-in.

In a store or by phone

Any Lids store can scan a card at the register, and customer service can look one up by phone. With mall and stadium locations across the country, in store is usually the shortest route if you are carrying the card anyway.

What the card covers

Lids sells fitted caps, licensed team apparel and headwear customisation, so a card here is usually spent on one or two specific items rather than a basket. That makes the balance worth knowing before you queue — a $30 card against a $42 fitted cap is a decision, not a surprise, if you check first.

When the lookup fails

Confirm the number is 16 digits and the PIN is 4. Re-enter rather than paste. Give a card bought minutes ago a few hours to activate. If the PIN coating tore off part of a digit, the online form cannot help and a store can.

A card for a team you do not follow

Headwear is personal in a way few gift categories are, and a licensed cap for the wrong team is a card that will sit for years. Rather than that, sell the balance through FlipGift escrow: the buyer's money is held first, you place their Lids order with your own card, and the escrow pays you once it is delivered. A flat 2.5% fee is split between both sides and sellers typically keep 72–88% of face value. Note the shape of it — you never type your card number into anyone's form, which is the same threat model as the exposed scratch panel above.

Lids gift card balance — FAQ

What do I need to check a Lids gift card balance?

The 16-digit card number from the back and the 4-digit PIN from under the scratch-off coating. Both go into the balance form on lids.com.

Why does Lids say not to buy a card with an exposed scratch-off?

Because the PIN under that panel is the card's only protection. A panel already rubbed away means someone may have recorded the number and PIN and can drain the card once you load it.

Can I check a Lids balance in store?

Yes. Any Lids store can scan the card at the register, which also covers a PIN that has been damaged.

Can a Lids gift card be used online?

Yes, Lids gift cards can be used at lids.com and in Lids stores.

My Lids card number is not 16 digits — what is it?

Probably not the gift card number. Lids gift cards use a 16-digit number with a 4-digit PIN; anything shorter is usually a receipt or order reference.

Is there a fee to check a Lids gift card balance?

No. Checking online, in store or by phone is free and takes nothing off the card.

Can I sell a Lids gift card I will not use?

Yes — through FlipGift escrow, where the code never leaves you. You place a buyer's Lids order with the card and escrow pays you on delivery, typically 72–88% of face value.

Don’t need your Lids card?

Sell it via FlipGift escrow — the code stays with you the whole time. You redeem the card yourself to deliver the buyer’s order, and the buyer’s money is held until delivery is confirmed. Sellers typically net 72–88% of face value.
