Uber gift card: ride for less, or sell it for cash
Updated September 23, 2026 · Reviewed by Kirill Novikov, FlipGift founder
An Uber gift card only loads Uber Cash onto the account that redeems it — it cannot be handed to another rider. So the seller does not give you credit; they request the ride for you. In the Uber app a ride can be requested for someone else: the seller enters your name and mobile number as the rider, the pickup and drop-off you gave, schedules it for your time, and pays with their Uber Cash. Uber texts the driver's name, car and live location to your phone, and the driver picks you up.
Verifying an Uber booking made for you
When the seller uploads the scheduled-ride screen, the deal page shows your name, the pickup time and the addresses. Around pickup your phone receives Uber's SMS with the driver and car — that is the ride. Nothing to look up in advance beyond checking the details on the deal page match what you asked for.
Cancellation, and why the payout does not wait
A scheduled Uber ride can be cancelled by the account that requested it, so this wave takes scheduled rides only, from 2 hours to 7 days out, and the deal completes when the ride does — your confirmation, or three hours after the pickup time if you say nothing. There is no long payout hold: a ride that happened cannot be undone.
What an Uber gift card is worth here
Uber gift cards list here at roughly 8–15% off — "how to use uber gift card" is searched 500 times a month, and most of those people find out it only loads their own account. Here it pays for your ride instead. Typical bookings: an airport run at 5 a.m., a ride home after a concert, a cross-town trip you know the fare of. A lower real total is refunded to you automatically. The fee mechanics — 2.5% platform fee, how the discount is matched — are on the travel hub.
Booking Uber for less
Post the pickup and drop-off, the pickup time (at least two hours out, up to seven days), the rider's name and mobile, and the fare Uber quotes on the booking form. A seller with the card accepts within the hour of opening it and schedules the ride within two, with you as the rider; you pay from your FlipGift balance when they accept, the driver texts you at pickup, and the seller is paid once the ride is done.
Selling an Uber gift card
Uber gift cards are the most common unused gift card in the US after Starbucks. You cannot transfer the balance, but you can spend it on a buyer's ride: they post the pickup, you schedule it in your app with them as the rider, and you are paid once the ride is done. A paid request gives you an hour from opening it to accept and two to schedule the ride; you are paid when it is done, and cancelling a ride you scheduled for a buyer ends an account here. List it →
