Etsy Gift Card Balance — Credit on Your Account

An Etsy gift card becomes account credit the moment you redeem it, and the balance then shows at the top of the site when you are signed in. Three things that credit cannot do are worth knowing first.

You must be signed in to your store account to view this balance.

Redeem, then read

Sign in to Etsy (or create an account), open the gift card redemption page, and choose Redeem a gift card. The value is added to your account, and from then on the remaining balance appears at the top of the site whenever you are signed in. It is applied automatically to future purchases.

That is the whole mechanism: there is no card-number form to consult later, because after redemption there is no card — there is credit.

Three things Etsy credit cannot do

Worth reading before you plan around a balance:

  • it cannot pay an Etsy bill (the seller-side invoice);
  • it cannot buy an Etsy gift card;
  • it cannot be spent in a shop that does not accept Etsy Payments.

That last one is the one buyers meet in the wild. Etsy is a marketplace of independent shops, and payment settings are per shop. A balance that works fine in one shop can be unusable in another, and the checkout is where you find out.

Partial payments are normal

If the credit does not cover an order, the remainder goes to a card or PayPal depending on the seller's settings. That makes a small balance genuinely useful rather than stranded — it just needs a shop that takes Etsy Payments.

If the balance does not appear

Confirm you are signed into the account you redeemed the card on — a second household login is the usual explanation. Confirm the card was actually redeemed rather than merely received. And check the order history: applied credit is spent automatically, so it draws down without a separate decision each time.

Sellers see this differently

If you sell on Etsy, gift cards and credit interact with your payment account rather than your buying balance, and Etsy documents that separately. Do not reason from one to the other.

A card for a marketplace you do not shop

Handmade and vintage is a taste, and an Etsy card given to someone who does not browse there is credit that will sit. Because it becomes account credit rather than staying a card, moving the value is easier done before you redeem it. On FlipGift you can sell the balance through escrow: a buyer's payment is held in escrow, you place their Etsy order from your own account, and escrow releases your cash on confirmed delivery. A flat 2.5% fee is split between both sides, and sellers typically keep 72–88% of face value.

Etsy gift card balance — FAQ

How do I check my Etsy gift card balance?

Sign in to Etsy — once the card is redeemed, the remaining balance appears at the top of the site and is applied automatically to future purchases.

What can Etsy credit not be used for?

It cannot pay an Etsy bill, buy an Etsy gift card, or be spent in a shop that does not accept Etsy Payments.

What if my Etsy balance does not cover the order?

The remainder can be paid with a credit card or PayPal, depending on the seller's settings.

Why will a shop not accept my Etsy credit?

Because payment settings are per shop. A shop that does not use Etsy Payments cannot take gift card credit, however healthy your balance is.

My Etsy balance is missing — where did it go?

Check that you are signed into the account you redeemed the card on, and look at that account's order history: credit is applied automatically to purchases.

Is an Etsy gift card the same as Etsy Credit for sellers?

No. Seller-side credit interacts with the payment account and is documented separately by Etsy. Do not reason from one to the other.

Can I sell an Etsy gift card?

Yes, through FlipGift escrow, and it is easier before you redeem it: you place a buyer's Etsy order from your own account and escrow pays you on delivery, typically 72–88% of face value.

Don’t need your Etsy card?

Sell it via FlipGift escrow — the code stays with you the whole time. You redeem the card yourself to deliver the buyer’s order, and the buyer’s money is held until delivery is confirmed. Sellers typically net 72–88% of face value.
