Target military, student and teacher discounts: what exists

Target's discount is structural, not a code: the Circle Card takes 5% off everything, every day.

Target military, student and teacher discounts: read this before you queue

This is the most misunderstood set of "discounts" in US retail, so plainly: Target has no everyday percentage discount for students, teachers or military. What exists is narrower, and knowing the shape of it saves a wasted trip.

• Students and teachers get more than 50% off a Target Circle 360 membership — $99/year down to $49, or $49 down to $24 if you have a Target Circle Card saved to your account. It is a membership discount, not money off your basket.
• Teachers get 10% off one storewide purchase during Teacher Appreciation Week (3–9 May 2026).
• Military members, veterans and families get 20% off one qualifying storewide purchase, 21 June – 4 July.

All three run through Target Circle and require verification in your account settings (Target uses SheerID). The everyday saving that is always there is the Target Circle Card's 5%, which also applies to most third-party gift cards — though not to Target's own cards, prepaid Visa/Mastercard/Amex, or Starbucks cards bought at an in-store counter.

What actually works at Target

The rules that catch people out

• On a single item you can usually combine one manufacturer coupon, one Target store or category coupon and a Circle offer — the Circle Card's 5% comes off last.
• A code that refuses to apply is usually colliding with an incompatible Circle deal rather than being expired.
• RedCard was folded into the Target Circle Card family in 2026, so older 'RedCard code' advice no longer matches the checkout.

Why the "Target 30% off" codes you find on coupon sites usually fail

The aggregators rank for "Target promo code" because they post everything, valid or not — there is no penalty on their side for a code that fails at checkout. The offers in the table above are the ones Target publishes itself — everything else is worth about the time it takes to paste it. Check the live terms on Target Circle's own page before you plan a basket around a discount.

When the discount doesn't apply to you

Target's best published discount is 5%, on exactly the terms in the table above. If those terms do not describe you — the wrong membership, not a first order, an item on an exclusion list — then the discount that actually applies to you is zero, whatever a coupon page promises.

The alternative sidesteps eligibility entirely. A shopper sitting on Target credit they will not spend places your order and ships it to you; you pay them 8–40% less than the receipt, and the money only moves once you confirm delivery. Target's exclusion list never enters into it, because Target sees an ordinary order.

What that costs on a real Target basket

Target ships free once the basket passes $35 and charges $5.99 below that line. So a $30 basket reaches $35.99 at checkout, and the discount applies to that whole figure — not just the goods. At 10% off you would send about $33.20 into escrow, the 2.5% buyer fee included. Push the same order past $35 and the shipping line disappears, which is usually the cheapest way to structure a Target request.
