How to Check Your Steam Gift Card Balance

Redeem a Steam wallet code into your account and check the result — it's a code, not a PIN card — plus what to do with one you won't use.

You must be signed in to your store account to view this balance.

Steam gift cards and wallet codes aren't scanned like a store card; you redeem the code into a Steam account and it becomes wallet funds. A digital code has no scratch PIN — the whole code is the value — while a physical card hides its code under a strip. There's no standalone balance site; the funds show in your Steam wallet.

How to redeem and check

  1. Sign in to Steam (client or store site).
  2. Open the official redeem-wallet-code page above.
  3. Enter the code exactly.
  4. The amount lands in your Steam wallet, shown at the top-right under your account name.

What you'll need

  • A Steam account and login.
  • The wallet code (card or email).

Other ways to check

  • Your Steam wallet balance appears on your account details page.
  • Steam Support can look into a code that won't apply.

If the code won't redeem

Codes work once and are region-tied — an error usually means it's already redeemed or meant for another region. Re-check every character; O and 0 are easy to mix up.

Shows nothing / already redeemed?

Steam funds move into whichever account enters the code first, so a "used" code means the wallet value already sits in someone's Steam account — there's no leftover balance on the card to recover.

Got a Steam card you won't use?

Wallet codes are best redeemed into your own Steam account toward games or DLC, or handed to a friend who plays. FlipGift only handles shippable retail gift cards, not digital gaming wallet codes, so we can't cash this one out. If you have an unwanted card from one of the ~199 stores we do support, you can check the marketplace.

Steam gift card balance — FAQ

Can I check a Steam code’s balance without redeeming it?

No — there’s no official pre-redemption checker. The code is worth its printed face value until you redeem it into a Steam Wallet.

Do Steam gift card codes expire?

Steam Wallet codes are generally valid for one year from the date of purchase. Once redeemed, the wallet balance itself doesn’t expire.

Why won’t my Steam code redeem?

Usually a currency/region mismatch — your account must match the code’s currency. Expiry, a typo, or an already-used code are the other causes.

Can I get cash from my Steam Wallet?

No — Steam Wallet funds aren’t cashable or transferable out. If you won't use it, regift the code before redeeming it.

What can I do with a Steam card I don’t want?

Use the code toward something you want, or regift it — the balance keeps its value as long as you eventually spend it.

Do Steam gift cards expire?

In most U.S. states, gift cards are protected from expiring for at least five years, and many Steam cards don’t expire at all. Check the terms printed on your card or its packaging to be sure.

What can I do with a Steam gift card I don’t want?

Use it toward a purchase you'd make anyway, regift it to someone who shops there, or check whether the brand's own app lets you combine balances — a gift card is easiest to get value from by simply spending it.
