How to Redeem a Netflix Gift Card

A Netflix gift card becomes account credit, not a subscription. The credit sits on your account and pays each monthly bill before any card is charged, running down until it is used up. That works cleanly only if Netflix bills you directly — which is where most of these cards get stuck.

How to redeem a Netflix gift card

1. Go to netflix.com/redeem in a browser.
2. Reveal the PIN — scratch the panel on the back of the card, or copy it from the gift email.
3. Enter the PIN and select Redeem.
4. Sign in to the account the credit should land on, or start a membership if you do not have one.
5. The credit is applied and covers your plan each month until it runs out.

Check who bills you first

If you signed up for Netflix through Apple, Google Play, Roku, Comcast, Sky, T-Mobile or another partner, that company bills you, not Netflix — and gift card credit cannot pay a bill Netflix does not issue. The credit will sit on the account doing nothing. Move your billing to Netflix directly first: cancel through the partner, then restart the plan at netflix.com with a payment method of your own. Only then redeem the code.

Netflix code not working: what each error means

• "Invalid code." A character still under the scratch panel, or an 0/O or 1/I misread. Enter it by hand, with no spaces.
• The credit applied but the bill still charged your card. Third-party billing — see above.
• "This code has already been used." Single-use, and the credit went to whichever account redeemed it first.
• Region mismatch. A card is sold for one country's Netflix and cannot be redeemed on an account in another.
• The panel is damaged. Netflix support can look the code up from the receipt and the card.

What Netflix credit can and cannot do

It pays your Netflix bill on that account, at whatever plan you are on — so a more expensive plan simply burns through it faster. It cannot be transferred to another account, cannot be refunded to cash, and does not cover anything outside Netflix. Cancelling your membership does not release it; the credit waits on the account.

If you are never going to use it

Credit attaches to one Netflix account and stays there whether you keep the membership or not. The decision only exists while the PIN is unrevealed.
